homemade kirsch

this weekend i cracked open my jar of “cherry stones in vodka”. as promised by anna, a couple of months on and i have homemade kirsch. apparently it should be sipped, chilled, as an aperitif but david turned to the cocktail book and knocked up this very lovely drink. the flavours are quite complex – there is the cherry and almond of the kirsch, lime and herbs from the benedictine. really delicate and lovely to sip. the name is less elegant thought – lorraine #2.

to make one, shake together ¾ shot (homemade) kirsch, ¾ shot vodka, ¾ shot bénédictine, ½ shot freshly squeezed lime juice and ⅛ shot sugar syrup. strain into chilled glass and garnish with a twist of lime zest.
