best pizza…
Falcone & Borsellino Pizzeria
|Schneckenhofstraße 11 | Sachsenhausen |
Named after two anti-mafia lawyers, this is a new favourite of mine and one which I will happily travel across the city to visit. There is a good range of toppings available but it is the dough that might bring you here - as well as being flavoursome, there are a number of options - their classic base, a spelt version and a gluten-free version. You can also customise your sauce - the classic tomato, a tomato and pesto combination plus a cream pesto and garlic option. There is a small eat-in area and they also do takeaway.
Pizzeria Montana (pictured above)
| Weserstraße 14 | Bahnhofsviertel |
For a long time this was, hands down, the best pizza place in Frankfurt. Their wood-fired oven is bright yellow with a smiley face but they take their Neapolitan-style pizza very seriously. The dough has good flavour, their ingredients are organic and carefully sourced, their topping choices good and the chilli sauces they have on the tables pack a punch. A word of warning though, this bahnhofsviertel spot only advertises its presence with the neon artwork pictured above.
Pizzeria Da Cimino
| Adalbertstraße 29 | Bockenheim |
Pizzeria Dal Bianco
| Darmstädter Landstraße 3 | Sachsenhasuen |
Pizzeria Dick & Doof
| Bergerstraße 248| Bornheim |
| Schweizer Str. 15 | Sachsenhausen|
Pizzeria Dolomiti
| Oeder Weg 41| Nordend |
These five pizzerias are all good casual local options, if you’re in the neighbourhood and have a pizza craving. They have wood-fired ovens, plenty of choice and you will get served quickly. These are hole-in-the-wall places with some seating, often shared or at a bar, so don’t expect anything fancy. Da Cimino and Dick & Doof have a broader menu which I've heard good things about but I’ve not tried anything other than the pizzas. July 2019 update: Dal Bianco has been flagged as best pizzeria in Frankfurt by Genuss Magazin.
Finally, a word of warning so you can learn from my mistakes, if you see peperoni listed as a topping, it will be red (sometimes green) pepper, not salami.
